If you’re anywhere near Worthing in the next couple of weeks, you might like to pop into the library where I’m exhibiting 3 paintings with the Sussex Road Group, an artists’ group who meet for monthly life drawing sessions.

At the end of October, I spent a week at the Norfolk Painting School where I attended an intensive oil painting course, learning all the skills and techniques that four years at art college hadn’t taught me. While I’ve always painted, now that I have my new studio in my garden, I was keen to learn how to do it properly so that I can paint with more understanding of how to achieve the effects I was trying to create.

After work each day I’d clear my head with walks along the nearby beaches and I came home with a series of photos capturing the Norfolk light (if a little gloomy by the time classes had finished). Needless to say, the expanses of sky coupled with late October light provided plenty of inspiration for the paintings I have now completed and exhibited.

The exhibition is in the foyer of Worthing library until 14th December and entry is free; all work is for sale.
I would highly recommend the course I took, and Martin Kinnear’s excellent tuition – very inspiring!
